About Kimberly

Kimberly, the owner of Posion Ivy Chronicles, standing in front of tractor smiling and holding thumbs up.

Thank you for landing here. My name is Kimberly, owner and creator of Poison Ivy Chronicles. That’s me in the skin up above. Moments before this picture I was digging the tractor out of the mud and saying words my grandmother would disapprove of. Often times blogs and social media portray outdoor work as peaceful and healing. For many of us, like myself, it is, most of the time. But that’s not true for all of us.

Years ago,I saw two pictures. The header over the first picture read, “What we think gardening should be.”

The picture showed a mother, father, and child kneeling in a perfectly maintained garden bed with deep rich soil, vibrant flowers, and edged beds. The mother was in a sundress, the father and son both in polos and khakis. All three smiled and none had dirt on them. The second picture read, “What gardening really is.”

It pictured two women. Both in yoga pants; one gal a little too chubby for them. They’re both sunburnt and sweaty. The garden beds are full of weeds. Most of the plants are dead. There’s a dog in the background humping a screaming toddler and everyone is dirty.

In the twenty years I’ve been working in the green industry, I can tell you the second picture is far more realistic and those two ladies are probably a lot more fun to be around. Also, I would highly recommend wearing pants or at least shorts because ants in your underwear are only fun for the people watching.

When I’m not working or writing, I’m often backpacking. There’s nothing like sleeping amongst the bears to realize how small you really are.

Poison Ivy Chronicles hopes to deliver a little something for everyone. Follow along if you can relate to any of the following...

-You kill everything you touch

-You’re a busy homeowner who is afraid to make eye contact with your neighbors because your yard is the one they talk about at town board meetings

-You’d like to become more sustainable because you had to wipe your ass with an old t-shirt during the pandemic and it taught you that anything can happen.

-You’re a green thumb and you love sharing information. We never stop learning.

-You’re an outdoor adventurer looking for inspiration.

-You’re a curious reader who can find humor in a mushroom that resembles a penis.

Let’s jump into the weeds together. I promise you won’t get a rash.

-Kimberly
